First Day of School
Back to School!
On the eleventh day of the first lunar month, VPA students returned to school, and brought the excitement of the New Year!
To welcome the children back to school, VPA invited a professional lion and dragon dance team.
Lion dance, a folk art in China, expresses the good will of the people to eliminate disasters and seek for good fortune, because the lion is an auspicious animal in Chinese culture, symbolizing good luck.
Dragon dance, originated from the worship of the dragon, is an essential part of the festival to pray for the good weathers and harvests.
At the beginning of the New Year, we would like to promote the prestige of the nation and establish the soul of China through these traditional performances for children to feel the charm of our traditional Chinese culture, while sending the best wishes to all the teachers, students and parents!
The dance team also walked into every classroom, bringing wishes and luck.
Dr. Koong welcomed every child at the front door andshared the special Fu stickers from Hong Kong VSA with VPA students and parents.

Some teachers gave children red envelopes, asked them to write wishes and blessings in it, and posted on the wall.
Students in year 5 were asked totranscribe and compose New Year poems.
