On Sunday, 26th of February, ten ASJ Grade 10 students were invited to visit the Opium War Museum to commemorate Guan Tianpei (a Chinese admiral of the Qing dynasty) and his soldiers who sacrificed in the war 182 years ago.

The event, “Searching for Traces of Heroes” was specially organised for teenagers from Guangdong, Hongkong, Macao,and Taiwan.

2月26日是鴉片戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)“虎門(mén)保衛(wèi)戰(zhàn)”182周年紀(jì)念日，東莞ASJ的10名學(xué)生代表們受邀參加了粵港澳臺(tái)四地青少年“尋跡英雄”重走古戰(zhàn)場(chǎng)主題活動(dòng)，紀(jì)念182年前在戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)中浴血犧牲的廣東水師提督關(guān)天培以及將士們。

During the event, the students not only learned about the story of Guan Tianpei but also visited the ancient battlefield to have an up-close look at what the situation was like during those tumultuous years.

在活動(dòng)過(guò)程中，學(xué)生們不僅了解了“最杰出的元帥”關(guān)天培的故事，還重走古戰(zhàn)場(chǎng)，親身體驗(yàn)當(dāng)年戰(zhàn)斗環(huán)境的艱苦。

Xuqiang LI, Yuki XIE, Samuel GAO, and Mattew MAN, presented a poem, ‘The Soul of the Fortress’, which took people back to the war years ago. Huyee ZENG gave a moving speech,‘Commemorating the Battle of Humen’, helping everyone to understand more about the hard-won peace.

東莞ASJ的李旭強(qiáng)、謝嘉璋、高藝嘉、文熙朗四名同學(xué)為大家?guī)?lái)了配樂(lè)詩(shī)朗誦《魂鑄炮臺(tái)》，帶大家回到那場(chǎng)血雨腥風(fēng)的戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)；曾進(jìn)喜同學(xué)作了《紀(jì)念虎門(mén)之戰(zhàn)》主題發(fā)言，讓大家更加懂得今天的和平來(lái)之不易。

"I have only learned a few things about the Opium War in history books, but I didn"t know much about national heroes like Guan Tianpei." Michelle ZHANG said that on-site, she gained a deeper understanding of Guan Tianpei and other national heroes.

“以前，我只是在歷史書(shū)上學(xué)了一些鴉片戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)的相關(guān)知識(shí)，對(duì)關(guān)天培等民族英雄了解并不深刻。”ASJ學(xué)生張美盈說(shuō)道，通過(guò)現(xiàn)場(chǎng)的活動(dòng)，尤其是走進(jìn)關(guān)天培壯烈殉國(guó)的古戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)遺址——靖遠(yuǎn)炮臺(tái)，讓她對(duì)關(guān)天培等民族英雄有了更深了解，對(duì)關(guān)天培和其他將士勇于獻(xiàn)身的愛(ài)國(guó)精神敬佩不已。

It was an eye-opening experience for the students to deepen their understanding of one of the most significant Chinese historical events.

這次活動(dòng)對(duì)學(xué)生們來(lái)說(shuō)是一次大開(kāi)眼界的經(jīng)歷，這使他們獲得了關(guān)于中國(guó)歷史上最重要事件之一的寶貴知識(shí)。同時(shí)，通過(guò)這次活動(dòng)，他們對(duì)中國(guó)過(guò)去的斗爭(zhēng)有了更深刻的認(rèn)識(shí)。
