Earth and sky, woods and fields, lakes and rivers, the mountain and the sea, are excellent schoolmasters, and teach of us more than we can ever learn from books.

EY4 Field Trip (Birds Park)
Field trips are an important tool in education as they provide students with an opportunity to learn through firsthand experiences outside of the classroom. They allow students to see and experience things that may not be possible within the confines of a traditional classroom setting. Field trips can be used to supplement classroom learning, providing students with a deeper understanding of the subject matter being taught. They can also help to engage students who may struggle with traditional classroom learning or who may be more visual or hands-on learners. Lastly, they can be a valuable and memorable learning experience for students that can enhance their education and broaden their perspectives.
As part of our UOI, ‘Sharing the Planet’ we decided to take the children to the Chimelong Bird Park. On Monday 13th March, we set off with two buses of extremely excited children and parent helpers. As this was our first ISA school trip of the year it was a great opportunity to teach the children about bus riding etiquette; sitting nicely, wearing a seat belt and being mindful of others. The adults were grouped up with 2-3 students to make monitoring and manage travelling to different sites around the park.
The trip provided the students an opportunity to observe and learn about different animals and their habitats. It helped to develop their curiosity and interest in the natural world. It also helped them develop their social skills as they interact with their peers and teachers and learn how to follow instructions and behave appropriately in a new environment. The Bird Park was a fun and engaging way for the students to learn and grow, while also supporting the IB program"s focus on developing well-rounded, global citizens. When we returned to school the students were eager to write and draw their experiences in the Chimelong Bird Park!
