Last weekend, SHIA students at finally had their biggest challenge yet - an adventure in nature. Students used the weekend for two days and one night to take on the challenge of the Duke of Edinburgh"s International Award - Adventurous Journey div.
上周末,華朗國際課程的同學們迎來了本學期截至目前最大的挑戰——“野外生存”式冒險之旅。學生利用周末兩天一夜的時間,進行了愛丁堡公爵國際獎之戶外探索項目的實踐。
About the Duke of Edinburgh"s International Award, a self-development leadership programme for young people aged 14-24 worldwide, we are constantly creating opportunities to encourage and support students to challenge themselves and develop into the best version of themselves. The programme inspires young people to set and achieve goals in four activity areas: skills development, volunteering, sporting activities and adventures in nature.
愛丁堡公爵國際獎是一個培育青少年領導力的全球性發展計劃,該項目共有四大實踐主題:技能發展、志愿服務、體育活動和戶外探索。作為校方,我們全力為學生提供合適的機會與平臺,保障學生在安全的實踐中挑戰自我,看見自己的更多潛能。
One of the most challenging is the adventure programme. It allows young people to experience risk and undertake a team journey in a controlled environment, helping them to become resilient individuals and to develop a "spirit of adventure" and independent thinking.
而在愛丁堡項目中最具挑戰性的,就是戶外探索項目。該項目旨在讓學生在一個安全可控的戶外環境中實地習得野外生存技能,開展有序的團隊合作,發展探索精神與獨立思考的能力,成為更富有彈性的人。
Before the expedition, the students taking part in the challenge have undergone two days of skills training. The training enables all group members to travel safely. It includes tent pitching, outdoor cooking, map skills, orientation, risk assessment, first aid knowledge, route planning and outdoor formations. Safety during training and expeditions is a top priority for the awards. All training is delivered by qualified instructor supervisors. Following the training, the Outdoor Exploration Supervisor will need to approve that the team is technically able to carry out the "practice and qualification trip" in a safe, self-sufficient manner before it can proceed.
在開始戶外探索之前,學生邀請到具有專業資質的講師監督員給學生們進行了為期兩天的室內技能培訓,內容包括帳篷搭建、戶外烹飪、地圖技能、方位辨認、風險評估、急救知識、路線計劃、戶外隊形等,以提升學生的戶外安全意識與實操技能。培訓之后,戶外探索監督員需認可該團隊在技術上能夠以安全、自給自足的方式開展“練習和資格旅行”,項目才可推進開展。
Students are required to complete 6 hours of walking per day with only appropriate guidance and assistance from the Outdoor Exploration Supervisors and Assessors. Students work in small groups of 4-7 people to plan and prepare their own materials for the expedition, including orientation, planning, routes, food and equipment. Students have the opportunity to learn more about the wider environment, as well as develop self-confidence, teamwork and wellbeing.
學生以4-7人小組的小組為單位,自行計劃并準備探險的材料,包括定位、規劃、路線、食物及裝備等。學生需要每天要完成6個小時以上的徒步活動,戶外探索監督員及評估員只提供適當的指導和幫助。通過徒步及露營實踐,學生能有機會對自然環境有進一步的認識,同時在團隊協作中發展多元潛能。

We pepped our bags with our sleeping bags, sun cream, mosquito spray, prepared food and tried to read off our card to find a correct trail through the mountains. In three separate groups we made started the journey into the wilderness. Surrounded by mosquitos, snakes and long branches, all of us fought our way with only limited water and burning sun to the end destination.
學生們把睡袋、防曬霜、蚊子噴霧劑裝進包里,準備好食物,并努力分析手中的提示卡片,以找到一條正確的山間小路。在蚊子、蛇和長枝的包圍下,所有人都在有限的水和灼熱的陽光下奮力前行,最終到達目的地。
Although we sometimes chose the wrong path and had to turn back, all these experiences helped us to train our physical ability and practical skills in the wild, but most important, it taught us a lesson in how important ambition and teamwork is. At the end of the day, we cooked our own food; some had spaghettis, others prepared curry and some even grilled hamburgers. It was the most delicious food we ever had and then, we build up our tents and prepared to fill our energy supply for the next day.

雖然有時選擇了錯誤的道路,不得不回頭,但所有這些經歷幫助大家訓練了在野外的體能和實踐技能,最重要的是,這一課讓學生認識到意志力和團隊合作是多么重要。在一天結束時,學生自己做了食物;有些人吃了意大利面,有些人準備了咖喱,有些人甚至烤了漢堡包。學生們感嘆道:這是我們吃過的最美味的食物!相信通過本次戶外挑戰,大家都看見了嶄新的彼此與自己,帶著這份自信與熱忱繼續逐夢吧!
